Double Victory for Deanes at Prestigious LCN Awards

Deanes Restaurants have once again proven their exceptional reputation for consistent quality, scooping two of the top awards at the Licensed and Catering News Gala Awards held in Belfast on Friday night.

Chef and Proprietor Michael was awarded the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating a career that has shaped Northern Ireland’s culinary landscape. Meanwhile, his newest venture, MRDEANES, located on Howard Street, was named Restaurant of the Year in Northern Ireland, just one year after opening its doors.

mrDeanes has enjoyed a meteoric rise since its launch. Earning a prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand within just four months - the only new Michelin award in Northern Ireland for the year.

The judging panel praised Michael Deane, not only a culinary legend but as “one of the most dynamic forces in Irish hospitality today’.

    In their tribute, LCN stated:

“Beyond the stars, the restaurants, and the accolades, his real legacy is his influence—not just on what we eat, but how we eat. He has helped transform Belfast into a true food destination, mentoring countless chefs and inspiring a new generation of restaurateurs to be bold, brave, and never settle for less than exceptional.

“The evening’s honours reflect not just sustained excellence, but a visionary spirit that continues to shape the future of dining in Northern Ireland.”

Speaking after receiving the Award Michael Deane said:

“I am very humbled and honoured to be given this Lifetime Achievement Award however I have to give credit where credit is due and thank my family for their unwavering support, especially my late father and my wife Kate. I also want to acknowledge the importance of all my colleagues at Deanes and thank them for their commitment. Ultimately, I must thank our customers whose loyalty has enabled us to meet the constant economic challenges facing our industry.”

Michael’s remarkable career began in London, with formative years at Claridge’s and The Dorchester, before returning to Northern Ireland where he earned his first Michelin Star at Deanes on the Square. His move to Belfast led to the opening of Deanes Brasserie and Restaurant Michael Deane. He held a Michelin Star for nearly 30 years—one of the longest-running in Irish history. Today, Michael presides over a portfolio of acclaimed restaurants including Deanes Meat locker, mrDeanes, and Deanes at Queens, signalling his role as a leader and innovator in the industry.
